Physical Education: Statement of Intent
At Oakway Academy, Physical Education (PE) is an integral part of our curriculum that is inclusive and engages all pupils. We intend to work alongside Premier Active to deliver high-quality coaching which children access weekly. Children at Oakway develop the knowledge, skills and competence to excel in a broad range of sports and physical activities. We want all children to be aspirational about their future goals and promote this through our participation in regular competitions and festivals. We want to teach children skills to help them lead an active, healthy lifestyle as they grow and mature. We intend to teach children a range of basic skills, including the ability to swim at least 25m by the end of Key Stage 2. We aim for all children to be physically active for at least 60 minutes a day. We intend to teach children how to cooperate and communicate as part of a team, understand fairness and equity of play to embed life-long values. We also do this through regular leadership opportunities throughout the school. Our curriculum aims to improve the wellbeing and fitness of all children at Oakway Academy, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values and disciplines PE promotes. We intend for all pupils to take PRIDE in their PE learning.
