Oakway Academy believes that all children can succeed with the right level of support and nurture. We have creates 3 additional classes catering for children who require a different type of learning environment in order to reach their full potential.

Learning is Aspen Class?

Children access learning in a small group of 8 children, 1 teacher and 2 teaching assistants. Learning is delivered using strategies recommended by external agencies such as Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, and Occupational Therapist.  This includes following a TEAACH approach using work stations, tray tasks and visual schedules to create clear and consistent routines as well as opportunities for repetition and overlearning and develop independence skills. There is a strong emphasis on developing communication and interaction skills using tools such as AAC boards, Word Aware activities and Sunshine Circles. PIVATS assessments ensures robust tracking of progress.

Learning is delivered using strategies recommended by external agencies such as Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, Teacher of the Deaf, Visual Impairment Team, and Occupational Therapist. This provision enables children to access a differentiated curriculum and for learning to move at an appropriate pace. PIVATS assessments ensures robust tracking of progress.
